Compartment holds 2 bags of sand and the top has a piece that slides in and out to keep sand secure. Colored sand and pouring vases sold separately.

It's what I wanted however I was disappointed it was plastic and not glass which I assumed. It doesn't say what it is made of and if it does it's not upfront. Especially when the delivery box says 'fragile glass' on it then I open it and it's plastic. So for the price for something plastic and not glass, I wasn't happy
